CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginners I Class

Learn the fundamental basic steps, basic turns, timing and technique needed to advance to the next level of Salsa dancing.  (download Syllabus)

Beginners II Class

Continue to perfect the basic steps, basic turns, timing, technique and partner-work.  Once you have perfected the Beginners II curriculum, you are ready to advance to the Intermediate classes.  (download Syllabus)
(Prerequisite:  Beginners I Class or Instructor Approval)

Partner Techniques I

This class is intended to improve your dance technique by breaking down the basics and preparing you to advance to the next level.
(Prerequisite:  Beginners I Class or Instructor Approval)

Partner Techniques II (Intermediate Level)

Using a Rueda-like style, the Instructor break down individual moves, giving you the technique behind each.  This style of teaching is intended to help you become a better technical dancers as well as improve your timing.  Learn body isolation, control, and challenging combinations.  This is a class HIGHLY recommended to be taken in combination with the Intermediate and Advance classes.
(Prerequisite:  Beginners II Class and/or Instructor Approval.  New students to this session will take a beginners Partner Technique Class to learn the basics of the this class)

Intermediate Class

Step it up a notch by challenging your mind and body!  Build stretch and agility!  Gentlemen will continue to learn how to properly lead, and Ladies will continue to learn how to follow and add some styling to your moves. Your instructor will teach a dance pattern a session designed to equip you with the technique you’ll need to get out on the dance floor!  Students should be confident with the Salsa rhythm and the basic steps and turns taught in the Beginners class.

Advance Class

Add musicality, advanced turns and partner work, footwork, and shines to your dance!  This class is intended for students who have mastered timing, and have a clear understanding of intermediate level partner technique.  Instructors teach on an understanding that students have this basic knowledge.
(Prerequisite:  Intermediate Class and/or Instructor Approval)

On2 Intermediate/Advance Class

For dancers from Thursday Technique / Intermediate to intermediate levels, this course challenges students with partner work transitions that help to develop leading and following skills. Focus will be on weight transfers, preparation, footwork and fluidity of transitions, all of which are an essential foundation to higher level partner work. Students will learn partner work combinations and short shines (footwork) sequences that reinforce the importance of solid timing, weight transfer and fluid connection from move to move. Multiple spin prep technique will be introduced. Prepare yourself for the complexity of more advanced dancing by learning the skill of “smooth transitions” both as an individual dancer and in partner work.
(Prerequisite:  Thursday Partner Technique/Intermediate Salsa On1 or equivalent)

Cha-Cha Class (On2)

Have you’ve always wanted to learn the Cha-Cha?  Learn Cha-Cha cub-style!  Not only will you learn a fun and impressive dance, this class will also help you learn body isolation and control.  This class is intended for Intermediate/Advanced students. 

Bachata Class

A popular dance in the clubs, our Instructors will teach you the footwork and partner work of this dance.  Depending on the level of the students, the Instructor will continue to teach a higher level.  This class is intended for Intermediate/Advanced students.

Merengue Class

Merengue is another popular club dance.  Instructors will present the bare minimum you would need to know to dance Merengue socially.

Samba Cardio Class

Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Brazilian origin in 2/4 time danced under the Samba music. However, there are three steps to every bar, making the Samba feel like a 3/4 timed dance. Its origins include the Maxixe.  The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 19th century. There is actually a set of dances, rather than a single dance, that define the Samba dancing scene in Brazil; thus, no one dance can be claimed with certainty as the “original” Samba style.

Zumba Cardio Class (TBD)

Zumba is a popular fitness program inspired by Latin dance. The word “Zumba” comes from a Colombian word that means to move fast and have fun, which is just how people describe the routine. Using upbeat Latin music together with cardiovascular exercise, Zumba is aerobic dancing that is lots of fun and easy to learn.

Kids Salsa Class: (For Ages 7 to 17)

This is the opportunity to get your kids involved in a healthy, fun and challenging activity.  Bring your kids down and we’ll teach them the basics of salsa.   Also, they will have the chance to focus on the fundamental basic steps & turns, timing and technique.  Please contact us for more details.
